I am a 30 year old psychologist from Estonia (that’s a small country in Northern Europe).
My main hobby besides my dayjob(s) in a local small private clinic and local university lecturing sport psychology is combat sports.
I’ve been practicing MMA and BJJ (purple belt) for about 10 years. I have competed and coached all that time as well in the first ever MMA/BJJ club in my country. I have fought pro-MMA locally 8 times with a record of 6-2-0 and recently retired in favour of other avenues including those still connected to MMA (coaching, judging, organizing etc).
I have been a fan of MMA for years and have tried to learn from it and implement it as a fighter and a coach. We started 10 years ago in Estonia when here noone else had heard of the sport.
We learned from hearsay and videos. Luckily were able to go to excellent SBGi (Straight Blast Gym International) seminars soon enough. Then our training / thinktank really got going π
It’s been a real blast to see the sport and the skill within the sport to develop over the years.
Currently my main focus is on how to translate wrestling techniques and skills into MMA. The small changes that great wrestlers make to become great MMA fighters. How one often must combine greco-roman posture and positioning with freestyle techniqes. The uniqueness that is added by clinchwork on the fence.
But I like thinking about all the aspects of MMA and will write about whatever sparks my inspiration.
P.S I am available for seminars / guest coaching – just look me up on Facebook or Google+ or Twitter. As I am currently a full-time dad taking care of a 1 year old daughter please book well in advance.
